Carry a notepad and a pen with you all the time. When you see something or think of something that strikes you, write it down so you don't forget. Or if you think of a single line for a song you really like, write it down. You can always come back to it later when you're more ';inspired.';Any advice on how to write good songs for your band, you know just little tips and stuff?
Sometimes you can try too hard to think of something. Sometimes if you just rhyme some silly words with the music, you can go back later and put some meaningful words in place of them. It will just give you a feel for the rhythm and meter of the words.


For lead guitar, which is my area, I will sometimes hum along to the music...whatever comes to mind, just start humming a tune to the music and then there is my lead guitar line.


Everybody does it differently. Some people write poems and make a song out of it. Some people write the words before the music, some do it the other way around.


Also...Very important...if you write something about your local area, it's usually a big hit when you play around town.
