I am about to take my first spinning class, how painful is it? any advice?

I am painfully out of shape and looking to get in to spinning. Any advice or idea of what I am getting in to? How painful is it?I am about to take my first spinning class, how painful is it? any advice?
Spinning can be difficult. It's a great workout. Tell the instructor that you are new and out of shape before the class. He or she might suggest some modifications for you so that you can participate but not hurt yourself. Don't go all out or you won't be able to walk tomorrow! Drink plenty of water and bring a small towel for your sweat.

Also, if you like spinning, consider buying a gel seat for the bikes. I have one that slips over any seat. Your butt will be happier! Good luck!I am about to take my first spinning class, how painful is it? any advice?
I have been through spinning (trademark) certification training. For the time involved, Spinning can be one of the most effective and efficient cardio classes. The group atmosphere can be motivated, and if the instructor is good, then your experience will be a good one. Some things to remember: 1. wear appropriate clothing. Your shoes should fit well. I recommend cross trainers not running shoes. You will probably feel best wearing some padded bike shorts under your workout shorts--especially if you are not a cyclist. 2. it is YOUR class. You will have control of the ';tension knob'; on the bike and can adjust the level of resistance that is right for you. The instructor will encourage you to challenge yourself and you should respond to that, but you can always release tension of the peddling becomes too difficult. 3. Take a water bottle. Drinking is necessary to keep yourself hydrated. Most spinning bikes will have a water bottle holder. 4. Relax and enjoy the ride--part of spinning is mental, giving yourself over to the illusion that you are cycling outdoors.

After the class, be sure to participate in the stretching since this can help mitigate muscle soreness that will be there when you use muscles you don't normally use.

Spinning can be a great compliment to a cross training aerobics program. I hope the class goes well!
I lost over 75#'s %26amp; I think Spinning (and a very strict diet) had a lot to do with it. First of all make sure that you take a beginner class which should be 45 minutes. Secondly, I don't know if I would reccommend it before you at least were doing other cardio exercise first. Maybe being able to walk at a fast pace for an hour. It is a very extreme class %26amp; you can easily get discouraged if you find at too difficult. If you do take a class take it very easy %26amp; don't try to be the best or fastest in the class, it will take time to get used to the workout.

Finally, your butt will hurt the most! I would think about even buying a padded seat %26amp; bring it with you. Good luck!
