Consider that he may have lent you this money in your previous incarnation... and You have returned it to him in this incarnation.. thereby nullifying your debt.
So... Celebrate... and feel happy about it... instead of feeling hurt...

Report him to the authorities. You probably won't be seeing your money even if he is caught, so it would be just to try and forget about this terrible situation and get on with your life. In the future try to be more cautious about the kind people you let into your life.
Count your blessings that he didn't hurt you in the process and move on!
